We can hardly understand from where Planning commission got the figure. They may be working on price levels a decade ago. It is necessary to rework the statistics and come at reasonable figure. A family of five definitely needs Rs. 5000/- a month (Rs. 170/- per day) to live at minimum standard with free primary education for children and health care in government hospitals. May be the planning commission divided this figure by five which comes to Rs. 34/- which is near to Rs. 32/- estimated by planning commission. Possibly planning commission figure is for an individual and not family. This excludes medical facilities and education.
