Frankly I feel that we have had enough of Sachin Tendulkar on TV and everywhere for that matter , no doubt he is a brilliant achiever and has earned name, fame and wealth....but is there any need to go overboard when he decides to retire ! Don't we have far more serious concerns in our country that need to be addressed ?

Well, That's what media always want, something new. I am sure no body will care after his farewell done.

No doubt about that, but while it goes on , it is a bit too much to take in....We need to have a balance !

This is the trick used generally by those channels which have no stuff to show on a given day. Sachin footage is a syndicated stuff for which no extra work like creating storyboard etc are necessary. Just playing the stuff on their channels. All the telugu channels use these space fillers.

May be, but it is a dangerous trend of hero worship and this is how we get sucked into a system where we make much of celebrities, politicians and others and look down on common people with common problems and achievemnets..

Channels are least bothered about the trends. They bother about their ratings. True , Hero worship is an unhealthy trend.

It is right at present Sachin's retirement is hot topic. This hero worship is time being, after some time all forgot Sachine.

This is what is happening with even serious issues ...make much of it for a day and then forget it ! This is not at all a healthy trend and thats how we have a corrupt system which knows that people have very short memories...

Apart from that it will effect his game adversely and his last game may turnout to be a big disappointment for him and his fans.

Even if it turns out to be a disappointment, it goes in to the record books.
I can visualize the following headlines in the media :

Master, the creator of Million Cheers
Throws his fans in to Million Tears

We either 'Don't do' or "Over do."
Usha I totally agree with you, although I too am a fan of Sachin, it has still made me sick of so much constant adulation and worship that is going on currently for the past so many days. Not just sports and News channels, but even in the daily soaps it is all about Sachin Tendulkar, I actually switched off TV twice! It is beyond doubt that he is a brilliant cricketer and has achieved a status that no one else has managed to even reach, but so much worship and a big hullabaloo about his retirement is quite beyond my comprehension! Or maybe I am stupid but I still fail to understand why money needs to be spent on building a new path at the stadium just to make sure his mother is able to reach their on her wheelchair to see her son play for the last time? And that too when she spent her entire lifetime avoiding to sit in the stadium even once to see him play!

Excatly my feelings ! I too have liked Sachin since he has given a lot of dignity to Indian cricket....But now what is happening is a hysteria which is a very unhealthy tendency .It looks more like a political circus rather than a sports event !It has lost all dignity now !
News headlines must include news from all sphere be it entertainment, sports, politics or social and general awareness, etc. We cannot avoid any of them. Sachin Tendulkar is idle of many young Indians. People learn from them be it good or bad. Although we should accept the good.

We learn how to become great and famous like them.

Of course, i agree with what you said that Sachin is a role model for Indians. especially young ones. So is Mahatma Gandhi and Subhas chandra Bose. What I feel is if done in doses people relish anything. It should not be overdone. Its what happening in Sachin's media coverage.

Sachin is a role model as far as cricket is concerned only ! I wouldnt have wanted my children to emulate him where studies and academic distinction is concerned...He also commercialised cricket by modeling and making large bucks, so let us not close ourr eyes about realities.Besides being a brilliant sportsperson he is also a brilliant business man...He has tried to evade taxes quite a few times taking advantage of the fact that he is adored by all including the politicians !
No one is perfect and it is the same case with Sachin, so let us not take him to the level of a demi god...
Media wants business and TRP. If they don't give us the news in which we have interest, their TRP will go down.

Exactly! As far as being a role model is concerned, he is a good one, for being a thorough gentleman on and off field, being able to maintain his dignity and temper no matter what etc. But so far as his behavior as a model citizen is concerned, there are too many red flags, especially the fact that he sold off the Ferrari to a Surat businessman, the very car which was a gift to him out of love and he did not pay the taxes on it! He has lots of money to buy his own land and start an academy but he is insistent on government giving him a grant for it!
As far as Sachin is concerned I have no hesitation in accepting him as one of the greatest sporting icons of the world and he rightly deserves all the accolades being currently heaped upon him. It is equally true what Usha tries to stress here. In India we are witness to such hero worship but the point here is how much of it affects the person and right here Sachin is so uniquely different! One thing that all of us can take a leaf out of the great maestro's book is to focus on life on matters which you naturally connect to and give your best and excel at the highest level.
This match has made a history, perhaps world record. There is no player like him. Many hearts will be broken when he will leave the cricket match.

All good things will have to come to an end sooner or later. What all we have to see is what made him reach pinnacles of glory and emulate the good and finer aspects of his trait. Youngsters should take a cue out of his life and try to scale higher peaks than the peaks he scaled.
The problem with us is to thump down a person who is down and out and no matter what qualities he or she may have, nothing seems to be right with people who are not successful and opposite is true of those who are successful.I hate this trend where people get so easily carried away and are willing to overlook flaws in a person and give him the status of a god because the [erson is successful - this could be in any field, Sachin has worked hard and made a mark like no one else, but he has been rewarded for it may be a thousandfold more...We see so many others, very average people working their bnes out day iin and day out and they dont get rewarded nor does anyone speak about them...

However painful and hard the fact may be, it is doubtless true! Even a loser's losses are made a thousand times more by apathy, virulent criticism and inhuman indifference!!
Sachin has scored 74 runs in his last match. People has enjoyed it and greeted him with lots of love.
Sachin is surely a great cricketer . But to make such a noise and haloobaloo to bid him farewell is something unbecoming. Don't we have other great cricketers who brought laurels to the country? Did we ever have such grand farewells for any one of them? We Indians really love to do certain things!

We Indian are festivals lovers. But it my suggestion that forget for a moment this farewell and think what is special in Sachine which make him differ than other cricketers.
Consider England. In England, there are many football clubs. There, people are crazy about football. Likewise, here, people who love cricket, are crazy about Sachin and there is a reason for doing it. His statistics and he has been a savior for Team India in most of the occassions.
Even great celebrities across industries admire him and in my opinion, is the greatest achievement for any individual.
