When his historically famous speech, “Tryst with Destiny" was delivered, Pandit Nehru did not deliver the speech in the capacity of Prime minister of India. Technically Pandit Jawaharl Lal Nehru was not the Prime Minister because he was elevated to the role only on Aug 15 while he delivered the speech on the midnight of Aug 14.

Apparently Mahatma Gandhiji was in Calcutta on this day 66 years ago grieving over the fact that the country had been divided. The Nehru family and the rest of the politicians of that time were rejoicing over freedom with the knowledge probably on what it meant to them in terms of power and all that comes with it !

Pay no mind to those who talk behind your back, it simply means that you are two steps ahead !!!

Pandit Nehru was P.M. when the news agencies dispatched news. Moreover, the function was held on 15th August only as day begins at midnight. Undoubtedly, Nehru was P.M. on that day irrespective of time of oath.
