It is human nature that a disciplined firm person is always respected since the others know that such a person can never be compromised.I doubt if any of the previous leaders had strength of character while dealing with Pakistan or for that matter other neighboring countries who all think of India as a joke...

That strength was shown only by Lal Bahadur Shastri and later on By Bajpayee who refused to stand down to the threats of China and Pakistan. Other than those two, no one ever has stood firmly before the aggressive neighbours!
