The Maoists have their own distinct ideology and have declared a war against the state. The can be expected to do nothing better. The security of the I.A.S. officers must be more effective. The officers in Naxal affected regions are at great risk and they need tight security.
I wonder aloud how the collector could visit such a dangerous place without adequate security!
It is dangerous for such officials to move without proper security..
Situations like this test the real power and decisiveness of the Government. I think that the life of the IAS Officer is worth leaving those maoists. Later on, they can be captured if Government wants. It is very tough but still it's not impossible.
People like IAS officer, Collectors are main targets and security needs to be tightened
I think this is the third day the Maoists has taken the collector as hostage.
Efforts are being made to negotiate with Maoists and see what demands can be met. apparently, Maoists have an upper hand and they may get many demands met.

Some concrete action must be taken by the government to relieve the IAS officer from the maoists.
It's a very delicate situation and needs all the patience and tact to secure release of this officer.
The negotiations will commence shortly. Maoists are raising more demands. They assured that the hostages will be safe during negotiations.

Now this is clear that ultimately dialogue is the only way. Should Maoists not use dialogue as a continuous and permanent means and shun violence. even after war, talks are the last resort.

It is a very tough situation to handle. The negotiations from the maoists side will be highly unreasonable.
The kidnapped officer is safe. He has sent a letter confirming that he is safe.

Obviously dialogue is the only way to solve this problem.Even if this officer is released I don't see any end to their high-profile kidnaps!
Yes, The collector communicated with his wife; once through a wireless set and twice via letters.
Thank GOD now he got released from the movoists who have kidnapped him.
The Orissa Government accepted the Maoist demands. They have released the D.M. For details, see the link:

Surprisingly, the officer is yet in Maoist custody whereas the engineer has been released. The Maoists have given new conditions for the release.

The collector has not yet been released despite contrary news that confirmed his release. Maoists have made more demands for the release.

The collector is still held hostage and Maoists have put forward fresh demands!
Oh!Is it so?. I thought the IAS officer was released along with the junior engineer. It is hard time for him. :( :(
