I think backlinking is nice way to get traffic but if your contents is good then you will get backlinking automatically.

If you have alot of time and you want to work alot to get backlinks. Then i will tell you few methods.
1. best unique content writing.
2. submit your sites in directory sites: that is directorycritic.com.
there will be alot of sites and submit your site in those sites.
after their time duration , you will get backlink.
3. social net working: keep your website in social net working websites.
4.Use best and concern related keywords.

AUTOMATICALLY YOU WILL GET BACK-LINKS.

You can also check your total numbers of backlinks in webmaster tool just need to login and add your blog in google webmaster tools.
