Sin is a religious concept, meaning offence and wrong doing. In this sense, we should not commit sin and abide by path of virtue.

Sin is defined by the society on the basis of the Epics. The lines are drawn and if one goes beyond them, he is supposed to be sinner. It varies according to the thinking of various persons.A person doesn't eat non-veg food as it is a sin according to him while other eat all kind of non-veg food.

Is penance not a way to rectify sin? confession and penance may rectify sin. If I am wrong, please explain. Is it possible that punishment rectifies sin?

@ Gulshan
I did not mean that punishment rectifies sin.
I mean a crime can be rectified by a punishment. but a sin cannot be rectified by punishment.
