Corporal punishment only is real punishment. The rich pay fine easily. Many do not bother about imprisonment also. But everyone fears corporal punishment. Corporal punishment in form of caning on one's backside is administered in singapore and some other countries. This reduces crimes.
Corporal punishment in schools is more an issue. There is no corporal punishment system in India. Beating students abruptly in a rage is actually not corporal punishment. This means planned and uniform punishment for certain offences. In Delhi, corporal punishment was permitted a few years ago, but NDA government under Vajpayee removed this. A number of strokes with cane are decided and the punishment is enteredin a register. Then prefixed number of cuts with cane are given to offending student. Such punishment is not arbitrary and student knows the cause of punishment. This brings improvement.
