The Income Tax Department has besides PAN introduced another ID for identification of documents submitted to the Department.

Does this means that the PAN will be no longer required? Or is it that the PAN is ineffective in making the process of filing tax returns more efficient and transparent?

PAN would be still there and this id is basically a linking number to the various documents that are filed to track them in relation to a particular PAN!
Oh, will it also have a card? Remembering all these numbers is a difficult task now.

It is not a card but a number which should be useful in bringing more transparency in dealing with various issues involving the department!
That means a simple number! To remember it will be the responsibility of the person.
