One of the DD commentators had allegedly introduced the African nation as among the world's least developed countries during Commonwealth Games opening ceremony on October 3.

The DD Director General Aruna Sharma has tendered a written unconditional apology to the Malawian High Commission for the matter.

In a letter to Malawi's High Commissioner to India Chrissie Chawanje Mughogho, Doordarshan Director General Aruna Sharma said the remarks of the commentator were "unintentional" and "inadvertent".

The media persons must be aware of what they are going to present in the media before they actually deliver it.
Yes, Media persons should research everything before they speak and the TV People should make commentators who know everything and think twice before they speak..

It's a gaffe of an unbearable and serious kind!An unconditional apology is perfectly in order!
If it is unintention then definetely apology should be given..and it is always good to know compelete information about anything before speaking in on news channels.. admitting onces fault is quiet appreciatable. :)
Yes,apology is a must when something is done intentionally or if some statements had hurt others.Though it is hard to conduct live shows the media persons should be aware of each and every word they utter.
The media speak anything- relevant or irrelevant. The occasion was games. So, the media should only sports related news and nothing else. If you utter everything unnecessarily, there are bound to be unpleasant outbursts like this.
