Hyderabad, May 26: Even for a state whose students are known to do well in the IIT Joint Entrance Exam, it was a thunderbolt. Seven students from AP figured swamped the top 10 ranks nationwide, including the topper, Mr Anumula Jithendar Reddy, a cricket-loving film buff.
This is the first time ever that a student from the state has topped the IIT-JEE. This is also the first time that so many students from one state have hogged the top 10 ranks.
Of the 2,610 students who qualified from the IIT-Madras zone, 2,095 were from AP.
With 9,059 seats being available in 15 IITs nationwide, students from AP will get 22 per cent. Which means that every fourth student joining the IIT this year will be from AP. Other AP top rankers were Mr Uday K. Shah (second rank), Mr Madhu Kiran Penuganchuprolu (4th), Mr K. Saathvik (6th), Mr Janardhan Reddy (7th), Mr Ch Nikhil Sabareesh (8th) and Mr G. Neeraj Gopal (9th).
While the first, second, fourth, eighth and ninth ranks went to Narayana Group students, a Ramaiah Coaching Insititute student bagged the sixth and a Sri Chaitanya Group student the seventh ranks.
“Keep your cool. Study the subjects with interest and the rest will follow,” was Mr Jithendar Reddy’s advise to students.
A total of 13,105 candidates cleared the IIT-JEE for the 9,509 seats on offer. Of the 1.13 lakh girls who took the exam, 1,476 qualified with Aakanksha Tushar Sarda topping with the 18th rank.

No surprise...In AP these students begin their preparation for IIT from even IXth standard. They are made to study like rats. 'It sucks', say my AP friends.
Another wonder this time is that a 14 yr Delhi boy got into IIT-that too with a 33 RANK. Really a child prodigy.. seems that he could do maths and calculations from a very young age.
@Sridevi..
Thats a very coool news..
Students are becoming brilliant and brilliant now a days..
