If the tide is too strong we cant with stand it. So if we have to face some society be aware that we may washed off!!

It's not the strength of the tide rather the strength of the character and conviction which mark out the real heroes from the unreal ones. When Suttee system of burning women after the death of their husbands was there Raja Ram Mohun Roy was the lone voice to abolish this barbaric system and the a large section of society was in favour of its continuance. The tide was too strong yet he persisted swimming against it and didn't get washed off!!!

As long as the custom is not unjust, cruel and grossly unfair to certain sections of society, we not oppose it. Generally, it is okay to go by social norms and swim with the tide. But in situations that call for revolt, we must fight against the tide. One example is Sati system that Raja Ram Mohan Roy fought heroically. We must rise against dowry system, child labor, child marriage and all the practices that are unjust. The question is not of swimming with or against the tide. This is of supporting the right and opposing wrong on basis of norms of justice and equity and fairness to all.
