Well, it is an old fact. But a latest study according to the article confirms further this old fact. out of 375 death row convictsthree-fourths of those given the death penalty belonged to backward classes, religious minorities and 75% were from economically weaker sections.

In recent days we have seen many cases that powerful people who are proved as criminal in lower courts are easily got bail in higher courts. Does justice in India dependent on money and power?

The facts and figures only confirm what is widely known to all...Look at all the cases around us, the more severe the crime and the more powerful you are , easier for you to escape .Does anyone care about those poor people who spent years in jail only to be found innocent after 15 - 20 years...This country's legal system is meant only for the rich and the powerful... There was an old film called Do Biga Zameen which dealt with just this subject some 50 years back,and things have not changed much even now..

There is a need to review our judicial system. Justice should be given quickly and purely based on evidences, not on the basis of money and power.

This country's legal system was made for stinking rich and powerful was a fact then and a fact today and remains as a fact forever. There is nothing new

I agree, the rich and influential have the ability to turn things in their favor and even the higher courts are not exceptions. Maybe the reason is rich people know how to use money power in their best favor with the help of best lawyers.

Money can do many wonders including buying the Judicial system.

Money plays a powerful role everywqhere and not only in India. That is the reason behind oft given advice that friendship or enmity shgould be only among equals.  Legal process is costly and time consuming. Again corruption and bribery further aggravate the situation.

True sir. Money playing a powerful role is a worldwide phenomenon. With money buying justice and the entire judicial system is not uncommon or unprecedented.

Very true ! the whole system needs to be revamped ...Earlier when NDA was in power and Arun Jaitey was the law minister , he had to a certain extent speeded up the long pending court procedures ...Later it was back to square one and the same old corruption andmoney power ..

But the most unfortunate thing is witnesses are either shot like in Asaram Bapu case or directly purchased.
