In the light of the horrible recent incident of rape, the Union Government has banned the taxi service altogether.  Taxis are anyway needed, particularly by Corporates.  So, merely banning them, is not the answer.

Why not have a regulatory authority, and report about each driver to the local police station, so that their backgrounds can be very much checked, before they are employed?  In this case, the service provider has employed a criminal, and this is a very big crime.

How do we deal with this situation?

The system   of assigning the cab drivers and Autos to a particular police station is in vogue. In AP on every taxi and Auto it's written also. But these systems are never implemented.

It is the taxi company that has to obey rules and regulations otherwise, credibility of that company completely lost forever.

Banning is definitely not the solution, banning or taking rights of the concerned taxi service company is justified, because they hired a driver without doing proper background check of the driver. But banning all taxi services is not possible, not only corporates, common people also hire taxi to reach airports, railway stations or for sight seeing or for day to day commute. Each driver and auto drivers should be registered in the nearest police station with their biometrics and other official data and if they have any criminal record they should not be hired.

Yes Sir, and Madam.  We positively need to reform the whole thing, and even some behavioral training and counseling by professionals might be another solution.  This has been tried out for auto drivers and bus drivers and conductors in Chennai, and reportedly, there were better results.

For strict enforcement of the laws, the taxi operators should also co-operate.

We also have another horrible tribe -- the private omni bus operators, many of whom are not properly authorized.  When the bus breaks down, it becomes a huge problem for lady passengers and the guys are often very impertinent.

The Government should have a proper local control authority for this mode of transport also.

Now in this regard both AP governments and Telangana are conducting raids on all the roads and seizing the vehicles which are violating the rules.

Banning the taxi services is a hasty decision, but not the right solution, which will only create difficulties to commuters. At the same time, it is the responsibility of the taxi company to do the foolproof checking of the background of the drivers before appointing them. If they cannot comply with the laws and regulations of the system, they are not eligible to run such business.

The Union Transport minister has rgihtly commented against banning taxi service. Ban is no solution. Reform is soluton.

AP government and Telangana government started conducting Checks on all the roads and started counseling the cab drivers and auto drivers. If violations are repeated the concerned are taken to task.

It is only when the incident takes place, we get to know about the criminal record of the concerned convict, why can't this procedure be done before recruiting them as drivers. State Govt. have to gear up proper control and adequate measure to bring all taxi and auto and bus services at par with proper security failing which their licenses should be taken away.

All the details of cab, auto drivers  are recorded in the RTO offices. But they are never referred or verified.
