In ancient periods, men as well as women use to wear jewellery. Now only women prefer to wear jewellery. Why?
Why men don't wear anything like "mangal sutra"? Men can wear "Mangal Kada" after marriage.

Mangal sutra itself is bizarre. I don't think that men should also follow this. Actually jewellery is considered for beauty also for show of status. Traditionally, woman is also considered as man's possession. So, he decorates woman just as you do with building, furniture etc. Jewellery is in fact a symbol of woman's status as man's possession or just a commodity. There is no reason why men may wear any such thing- Mangal Kada or whatever.

Jewellery are just meant for men.Women love to wear different types of jewellery. They just like the duplicate or the gold one.And man just wants to decorate women. They love to see women in jewellery.

Its a misconception that only women prefer to wear jewelery. Few men also love to wear jewels. Best example is Bappi Lahiri. It is said that he owns more jewels than his wife :)

What is a mangal kada by the way?
Jewels add a feminine touch so I think men are better off them.

Live in the present :)
Here is news. A research shows that men now give more importance to brain rather than beauty. This is a result of growing importance of women who are no more mere show piece. On the other hand, now women more look for appearance and physical charm in men that financial security. Thus, the thinking of men and women both towards choice of mate is undergoing a change.

There is no 'mangal kada'. This is Devyani's suggestion. Jewels are more worn by women. But men have also been wearing some. I have seen many men wearing gold chains, finger rings and ear rings. But this is among the less educated.
