Extra marital Affairs: Right or Wrong ?

Situation 1:
The husband is out of city for some work, and his wife is alone in the home. She calls her Ex boyfriend and both have fun..

Situation 2:
Just opposite to the first one, where the husband having affairs with Ex girlfriends, colleagues or prostitutes.

These are the most typical cases you will find in today's modern society. Tiger woods scandal is just one of those incidents. Now the question arises, why people become unfaithful to a relationship?? Is one night stand is just for fun?? Or this is the modern trend of our society??

    Now a day the relationship between husband and wife is just like a business agreement. Both are financially independent and can live in their own way. There are several reasons why man or women become unfaithful. Let’s analyze from both point of view.

    - They always want more, just for fun.
    - Somehow our society is accepting all these things.
    - Not satisfied with their married life.
    - It’s very easy to hide extra marital affairs.

    This is not an issue about ethics rather it's about your personality. So,There is nothing wrong in Extra marital Affairs until you think you are right.

    There has been a change in the marital ehical codes over the last few decades as these are products of a male dominated society with the process of emancipation of women from the economic bondage gaining ground, the scenario is likely change further-the old concept of 'marital faithfulness' will be more severly challenged than ever before.In the yester-years the economic vulnerability left any choice before a woman and now the economic component of a marital is receiving more importance and may be,the guiding force!

    There are two sets of law- nature and society- Law of nature recognizes only male and female. The concept of marriage and faithfulness to spouse is social and legal concept. Basically, we- human beings are animals and led by law of nature. The natural instinct favors extra marital relations whereas social restrictions and law prohibit it. The level of permissiveness differs. Recently, some Malaysian girls were flogged for sex before marriage. The girls have accepted that the punishment given to them is just.

    Having a relationship outside of marriage/extra martial affair is based on one's will and choice,whatever they chose,the blame goes to them alone and no one else to blame.

    Swetha- What you have stated is the legal position. Extra marital relation is a non cognizable offence. This is called 'adultery'. Only a male can be convicted. Sex with another man's wife is adultery and the only person who may complain is that woman's husband. A woman cannot complain against another woman who has sex with her husband.

    JS- The relations between husband and wife are not exactly like business. Family is basic social unit and future citizens depend for their upbringing and grooming on this institution. As long as extra marital affairs just add some spice and do not adversely affect the family, this is okay. This is a personal issue. The couples have to be more reasonable and accommodating to each other. In many cases, the husband or wife are too possessive and the extra marital relations badly affect the family and also the children. These aspects need be considered while dealing with issue of extra marital relations.

    The supreme court has commented in the case of Khushboo- a Tamilnadu actress that there is difference between legal and moral perception. The court cannot punish any one for expressing unpopular opinion. Khushboo had expressed in favour of extra marital relations. The apex court has ruled that except where section 497 related to adultery is involved, extra marital sex is not unlawful. Section 497 is attracted when a man has relation with some other person's wife. In such case imprisonment upto five years or fine or both may be awarded.
