India has less per capita income and hence cannot afford a good pension scheme like Canada and some other countries where everyone gets handsome old age pension. Our privately contributed pension scheme is very recent. Everyone can be a member of the pension scheme duly approved by Pension regulatory authority.

good point there......
India may have the world's weakest pension schemes, but according to Indian standards it is obviously right. Also, India has to grant pensions to a great number of members as opposed to the other countries. It is not affordable to give more at this juncture.
India's pension system may be weakest. But it itself gives a lot of relief for the pensioners.

The weakest pension system indeed but is having huge competition as we can still see that craze for government job and pension schemes. However, at old age it become the stick to survive.
As rajani said as we are having the weakest plans it is giving some relief.

India has worst pension system. Still, many people working in private companies feel jealous of the people working in Government offices, just for pension.

The govt. employees recruited after 2004 are not entitled to pension from government funds. Now pension fund is created from earning of employees and invested. They get pension out of their own earning during service. The pension scheme is available to all citizens- govt employees, businessmen, professionals etc.

PRDA regulates the pension scheme. Please see following link for details.
