I think this topic is an old one and has been replied earlier. However, briefly speaking, a moderator's job is to moderate. He will settle dispute if any arises between members during discussion, check that there are no duplicate or repeat topics and weed out these, guard against spams and do everything to see that the site is clean and vibrant.
