Is Majority a must for Governments?

This is well known. A government will be easily ousted by a no confidence motion or rejection of a money bill for want of majority.

However, numerical majority may always not be necessary. If opposition do not unite and vote together, government may survive even if in minority.

Union Government needs majority in parliament and state government in state assembly. Even if absolute majority is not there, Government needs to win confidence vote and not be defeated in legislature. Here we are concerned with parliamentary majority and not actual public support.
