About thirty five to forty grams of fiber is recommended on a daily basis. Constipation is especially common in senescence. This is due to poor dentures associated with improper eating habits.

Constipation diet should involve a lot of brussels sprouts, carrots, cabbage, asparagus, banana, Sapodillas, and so on. Engage in daily regular exercise to increase the bowel movement. Visiting the toilet at the same time everyday helps to a great extent, in relieving constipation. A Sitz bath is helpful in providing relief. Laxative diet comprises of a number of laxatives which act as stool softeners, lubricants and stimulants. Mineral oil is a lubricant laxative. These laxatives function by contracting the rectal muscles. Fiber supplements act as stool softeners, as they are mixed with water. Laxative abuse results in bloating, abdominal discomfort and pain.
