Hair Oil And Their Uses

Are you on the receiving end of all the scolding for not applying hair oil? If yes, then the advice is that you listen to the advice. Hair oil are food for your hair, which ensures healthy hair i.e devoid of problems like hair loss, dandruff etc. There are a lot of oils of different brands available in the market and meeting your requirements there is also the non-sticky oils. But experts say it is best to stick on to traditional essential oils for your hair. Lets look at some of the essential hair oils and their uses-

1.Coconut Oil – Used from the time of our Grandmothers, it is still the most effective oil for hair. The main work of coconut oil is to calm the scalp and thus, treat the hair of all the harsh effects of pollution and sun rays. A slightly heated coconut oil is best for head massage. Hair dye's are also harsh on hair due to the presence of chemicals and applying of coconut oil treats it effectively.

2.Castor Oil – Castor oil is the best solution to dry scalp. It works as a moisturiser and enhances hair growth and treats thinning hair
. It is best to leave castor oil on the scalp overnight and rinse the scalp with shampoo in the morning. If this procedure is followed once a week, within a months time you will notice hair growth and change in the quality of your hair.

3.Jojoba Oil - Jojoba oil can be applied by people of any skin type. This oil is famous for it's treatment capabilities of hair breakage, split ends, hair loss and dry hair.

4.Peppermint Oil – For healthy hair, it is very important to have the correct blood flow in the scalp. Peppermint oil does the needful to enhance the blood flow, which ensure enough oxygen and thus hair growth.

5.Lemon Oil – Lemon oil is specifically for oily hair. This oil is a good treatment for dandruff, lice and scalp infections. This oil can be applied once in a week and should be kept for an hour before being washed with a mild shampoo.

6.Tea Tree Oil – If you are the one who complains of greasy hair, then Tea Three oil is what you need. This oil, controls the oil production of the scalp and at the same time moisturises the hair. This is also a good treatment for dandruff. Few drops of Tea Tree Oil with Olive oil is a good combination for healthy hair.

7.Olive Oil – Olive oil is the best oil for treating drying of hair due to excess exposure to sun rays. This oil nourishes the hair and helps it to regain the lost nutrition. It is best to apply the oil and then warp the hair up with a towel for half an hour before washing your hair with a mild shampoo.

8.Almond Oil - Almond oil is high in Omega 6 fat and other essential fatty acids, which strengthens and revitalises hair growth. A massage with almond oil twice a week can ensure hair growth.

These eight essential hair oil is important for healthy hair, specially at a time when we are victim of pollution, improper diet and over exposure to ultra-violet rays. It is advised to not be exposed to heat and dust after applying hair oil.

For Dandruff

Massage
the Scalp with pure coconut oil. This will also help growth of hair.
*

Apply coconut oil which has been boiled with small onions for about 20 minutes. Wash it off with a mixture of green gram powder and water drained from cooked (boiled) rice.
*

Apply a mixture of almond oil and gooseberry juice with finger tips on the scalp.
*

Apply the warm mixture of olive oil, lemon juice and coconut oil. Do a steam -towel- wrap for 15 minutes and wash the hair with a mild shampoo.
*

Apply a paste of fenugreek and mustard to the scalp.
*

Mix Shikakai powder with the water drained from the cooked rice and wash the hair with it.
*

Crush the leaves of five petal hibiscus flower and take the juice
. Wash the hair with this juice.
*

Heat oil with a little camphor. Apply the oil in the scalp and massage for 10 minutes. After 30 minutes wash the hair with a herbal shampoo. Do the steam -towel- wrap for 15 minutes.
For Healthy and Shiny hair

It is better to apply castor oil for a healthy growth of hair.

Wash hair with tea once in a week.
*

Apply besan in the hair and wash it with water drained from the cooked rice.
*

Soak a handful of gooseberries in a cup of milk for two hours. Make a paste and apply on the hair.

Massage hair with warm coconut oil an hour before washing. Let it soak. Cover your head with a hot towel and wash your hair after an hour or so.

Boil a few hibiscus flowers in coconut oil. Filter and use this hair oil to control hair loss and thinning.
*

Do a 'steam-towel-wrap' once in a while, if your cuticles are damaged, as this steaming opens out the pores and absorbs the oil.

Soak 1 teaspoon fenugreek in curd and keep it for a night. Apply it in the next morning.
*

Boil coconut oil with the juices of curry leaves, basil, hibiscus flower and gooseberry. Apply on hair, keep it for sometime and rinse.
*

Take a cup each coconut and mustard oil. Soak half a cup of curry leaves in the oil mixture and keep it for a night. Next morning, heat on a slow fire till the curry leaves turn crisp. Remove from heat and add two to three camphor balls. Allow oil to cool and then strain. Apply oil to hair roots using cotton wool along the parting and massage in circular movements. Leave the oil overnight and shampoo the next morning. Repeat twice a week.

Add a lemon peel to a 'shikakai' and 'amla' mixture while washing your hair.

I generally use olive oil and castor oil...... warm them and apply them on the scalp.....
Almond Oil
Before we go ahead and have a look at the different almond oil hair benefits, let us scan through the different benefits of almonds and almond oil. The almond tree is a native of the middle east and has been planted by people through out the world due to it's high commercial value. The almond, which is actually a small seed, is also eaten by many people due to it's many nourishing properties. Though the almond is referred to as a nut, in reality, it is a drupe i.e. fleshy indehiscent fruit. The oil of the almond, in particular, makes it a rather successful commercial cash crop.

Almond Oil for Hair
The reason that almond is used for the purpose of extracting oil is that it contains about 54% of oil. The large percentage of oil with in the almonds, possesses many medical properties. There are three basic types of fats and fatty acids that are found in the almond oil. The first type of fat that is the mono-unsaturated Oleic acid, is an Omega-9 fat. The almond oil basically contains about 78% of this fat. Almond oil also contains about 17% of essential fatty acids, which are polyunsaturated and belong to the Omega-6. This oil also contains very small amounts of super-unsaturated Omega-3 essential fatty acids.

Almond oil for hair is many a times recommended by many hair experts due to some of it's very good properties especially, when it comes to having a good combination of different types of fats that have been mentioned above. The composition of fats and fatty acids is very beneficial for almost all types of hair as it proves to be very nourishing, and softens and strengthens the hair. The almond oil also proves to be a very good cleansing agent. If you apply almond oil on your hair a few hours before you go for a bath, the sticky fats on the oil absorb and collects the particles and the particulates of dust and pollution that have entered your hair. Eventually, when you wash your hair, the whole mixture of oil and dirt gets washed off effectively cleansing your hair and your scalp.

There is another very good advantage of using almond oil for hair. The almond oil can be effectively used as an emollient and tends to soothe your skin. As an emollient, almond oil also tends to have a very stable and neutral state once applied. This oil very rarely turns rancid. The combination of fatty acids also makes almond oil a very sweet smelling oil that gives off a rather heavenly aroma. You may also read more about:
(1)Hair Tonic:

Take equal weights of Avuri (Indigo/indiofera tinctoria) leaves, Bringhraj (Wadelia calendulacea/eclipta prostrata), fresh amla and hibiscus flowers and grind to a paste. Mix the paste with an equal quantity of coconut oil and heat on a medium fire till the moisture evaporates. Cool, filter and store in a bottle. Rub on the scalp and hair daily.

(2) Homemade shampoo: For clean and shiny hair, make this shampoo at home. Soak Shikakai seeds, soapnuts (ritha) and dried amla overnight. in the proportion of 2:2:1. Next morning, boil them in water for 15 minutes. Remove the seeds and blend the pulp in a mixer. Store this mixture in the refrigerator and use once a week.

3) HAIR OIL WITH DRY AMLA: The amla fruit cut into pieces is dried in shade. These pieces are boiled in coconut oil till the solid matter becomes like charred dust. This darkish oil is an excellent oil to prevent graying.
