Soon the Mumbai police women above forty would be allowed to wear sari instead of the usual trouser and shirt common to all police persons. There will be better toilet facilities also.

The relaxation of dress code does not appear good for forces discipline. Men and women should have same dress code. Sari does not appear to be smart dress for police. I opine that wearing of bangles, ornaments etc by women police should also not be allowed during duty hours. The very fact that rthe relaxation of allowing sari is to women above forty only goes to prove that sari is not appropriate for police force. If it were so, all police women would be allowed to wear sari irrespective of age.

Women police are plagued with a number of grave issues such as maintaining hygiene while on duty since there are no proper changing and sanitation facilities anywhere in cities or towns. Coupled with it, women above 40 also develop weight issues, declining health etc. so it may be a welcome move for many to be able to wear sari, which is more comfortable than pants in our climate conditions.

I laud the Police commissioner's move of relaxing the dress code for women police in this women's international woman's day.
