    Yes. This is in nature of secuity for the bride. This is akin to Security deposit for government contracts.

    Actually such cases are rare in India.
    Moreover, bride's family and others will have curiosity to know about the grooms capacity to run the family. It is the notion in India that man should take the financial responsibility of the family and not his wife. Adhere to this, very few brides family ask for dowry from groom's family. Therefore such law has been made. :unsure:

    I have a doubt. The marriage took place against the wishes of the parents. As a security measure Rs. 50000 are to be deposited. What if one of the Parents, in the name of Honor killing kill one of the members involved in the marriage,
    Now, I'd like to know where that FD will go and to whom it belongs.
    Please clarify.

    If the girl is killed, the FD will be returned to the groom as there is no more need for security. Even otherwise, the FD was to be retuned three years after marriage. If the boy is killed, his legal heir will get the money as usual.

    That is funny, is that kind of dahez or mehar in favor of bride to be. This is going to make things more complicated rather than helping the cause of the loving pair.

    I have edited my post. Please again read. The FD was to be returned after three years of successful marriage. In case of girl;s murder or even natural death, the boy gets back the FD. If the boy is killed, the FD should remain with the girl. But if both are killed, legal heir will get the FD.
