It is all magic of trick photography which is not all that difficult with little bit of practice and proper knowledge of software. It is lot of fun in the end.

In real life in certain atmospheric conditions, like extreme bright and hot sun in an open land, the place far away from you will look like a watery spot. Mirages in deserts is an example of optical illusion.
