Sun never sets in 'Indian Republic' ! a fantasy

If Non resident Indians contribute to Indian economy, why they should not be represented in parliament and not have a say. Presenty, they do not. Here is a futurist fantasy. All individuals of Indian origin anywhere contributing to Indian economy by taxes or otherwise will be represented in parliament. They can be ministers and participate in matters relating to governance.

I wonder why the author visualizes only persons of Indian origin. Is this not racialism. If contributing to Indian economy is relevant, why any one cannot contribute and be represented in parliament and government. This can easily pave way for foreign rule.

    Really this seems to be an important issue and I too believe that if they are made to pay taxes then why should they not represent the parliament or be allowed to caste their votes and I agree and support with the slogan of Jagmohan Mehta...

    Even the Indian residents can cast votes only in the constituency they are registered as voter and have to personally exercise franchise at the assigned booth. It may be recalled that even Dr. Man Mohan Singh, P.M. could not exercise his vote due to inability to visit Assam on voting day. Thus, it is not understandable how an N.R.I. can cast vote without going to a particular constituency where registered as a voter. As regards postal ballot, only soldiers and those on election duty are permitted the facility.

    Secondly, if some one is continuously away from India, he cannot be aware of the ground reality and hence not vote properly. The Non Resident Indians can also be used as vote bank by foreign powers.

    However, I suggest that if some one remains outside India continuously for five years or more, he may not be taxed for his foreign income and he be treated as a foreigner for taxation purpose. It is better to forgo tax revenue than to invite risk of foreign intervention through NRI route.

    Most Indians make a living after about five years stay in foreign countries.So considering them foriegners for taxation purpose will be injustice.

    Thiswill not be injustice but a benefit to the foreign based Indians. It is suggested that all Indians abroad be given voting rights in India for the reason that they pay tax. I am opposed as this will enable forein powers to interfere by treating overseas Indians as their vote bank. If payment of tax to India is their reason for right to vote, let them not pay tax.

    Payment of Tax should not be the reason for right to vote.Here in India many of us are not casting vote and how this becomes a meritorious right?
