The only option left out is to choose a strong Pass word consisting of Caps, dashes and some numerals. Never give your pet's names or your family members' names. Due to this reason many websites cautioning it's members to change their pass word often.

YOu have not specified which email provider you use. If it is Gmail, then there is means of reporting the problem when such a thing happens. All you have to do s notify gmail and then they ask you to change your password immediately and provide you with verification codes to ensure  you are true owner of the account. To make your password more secure and unhackable, it is better to use a proper combination of capital letters, small letters, numbers and special characters such as * # $ etc. and change password freuqntly.

Most of major email providers introduced the form of two factor authentication. So, if you have enabled that then just provide phone number of android phone and the hacker would be moved out from your account by Google/ Yahoo or MS. If you have not enabled this then for sure you would be in rough weather. If hacker changed the password, then it is almost impossible to get back your account. Immediately reach to this link

to retrieve lost password, only email id to be given in case of Gmail. Contact Gmail support team with an alternate Gmail id and provide username and password and last successful  login into email.
