On expected lines there was hardly any excitement in T20 World Cup as far as results were concerned. The teams who were accommodated merely to increase the numbers hardly put up any resistance. Bangladesh, Zimbabwe and Afghanistan lost both the matches they were expected to lose though Bangladesh to be fair were capable of upsetting any team on their day. As far as Ireland were concerned even fate too conspired against them as they got only one match to play which they eventually lost as the other was rained off.
In the end the teams who made the Super Eight were the only ones who should have been called to participate in the tournament. In fact if one were to be sarcastic practice matches were not required because the third teams in their respective groups in the first round were merely meant for practice to the two stronger teams in the group who were expected to ease through the Super League.
If at all there was worth anything to remember in the matches played till date it was rare centuries in the shortest format of the game from Suresh Raina and Mahela Jaywardene and New Zealand's upset win over Sri Lanka. The other highlight has been the Australia Pakistan match in which both teams lost where bowled out in the last ball of their innings. The match also saw eventual winners Australia losing 5 wickets in their final over while batting first and the lone ball which did not produce a wicket was a dot ball.
While the World Cup in general was expected to be boring especially prior to Super Eight stage what spoiled it further was that as many as 3 matches were decided D/L method because of rain while one match failed even to produce a result. As of now nothing seems to be going wrong in Twenty 20 World, the scheduling, weather and results. Let us hope that we can expect something better in the remaining matches.
