Cricket – The Gentleman’s Game
Cricket is the game which was first played in southern England. And everyone knows how much famous game it is now. But it took 2 centuries for it to become a national sport in England which was in 18th century.
And then during the beginning of 19th century when British Empire was conquering different parts of the world this sport was spread to other countries.
And then the first international cricket match was played in mid of nineteenth century.
Once it started becoming an international sport a council was formed called International Cricket Council (IIC) which comprise of members from different countries
. The rules of the game are maintained by IIC.
This game is played in a cricket ground on which is called as pitch between two teams comprising of 11 players each
Game starts with a toss and the team which wins the toss decides whether to bat or bowl.
One batsman from a team bats and try’s to score as much as possible without being out by the other team bowler.
When the batting team has used all the players within the limited over’s then the other team starts batting and try to score runs. The team which scores higher runs will win the match.
There are several variation in the match of cricket when it comes to number of over’s of match even though the game rules are same
. The length of the match ranges from 20 over’s per side to a 5 days match.
There are also many conditions for a player to get out while batting like catch, bowled and leg between wickets.
Firstly catch is a condition when a batsman hits the ball and the opposite team player catches the ball.
Secondly, bowled is a condition when a batsman misses to hit and ball and it hit the wicket.
Finally, leg between wickets is the condition when the ball hits the legs of the batman when it is in front of the wicket.
From the beginning of the 19 Th centuries up till now this game is becoming very famous
. And slowly some of the western countries like America are also learning to get into this sport. Due to the rules and fame of this game it is called as “Gentleman’s game”
