The problem of poverty has been one of the major concerns of economists and governments over time. This has been an acute problem ever since the time man started settled life. Modern governments adopt numerous methods to fight this problem effectively.
We believe in the concept of a welfare state. It invariably aims at prosperity of its people. Eradication of poverty is one of its declared objectives. However, it is easier said than done. It is not possible to curb away poverty all of a sudden. Through various measures, and with the whole hearted support of the public, the government can effect a betterment of the situation first. With the effective implementation of welfare laws and through a well- planned scheme, the acuteness of the problem can be alleviated.
Poverty leaves families in low standard of living. Even the requirement of daily bread cannot be met. In such a situation life becomes miserable. Poverty drives individuals and families to committing suicide. Poor and inadequate food, diseases, poor and unhygienic living conditions etc. are associated with poverty.
The government and other organizations have formulated and launched various projects to create job opportunities, thereby to fight poverty. Thus new job opportunities are created on one side. But at the mean time, population also keeps increasing. Birth control has crucial role in effecting poverty alleviation. The size of the family must be maintained small. Then only the little resources available could be used beneficially among the members of the family.
Awareness programmers, spread of education, job creating measures, vocational training etc. can alleviate the problem to an extent.
