21st September in the 21st Century, fondly known as International Peace Day !!!
On September 7, 2001, a new resolution was passed by the United Nations General Assembly to give the Day of Peace a fixed date and declare it as a global ceasefire day. That day was set to be September 21st. Just four days later on September 11, 2001, the World Trade Centers were attacked and Peace Days came and went without any ceasefires.
To commemorate this day I first of all Greet you on this occassion.
Coming back to Peace, surely there must be few things ringing in your mind as to what is the significance of following such days, when
- we cannot read the newspaper on a single day, without the news of violence in it.
- the rest of the world is plagued by other problems such as poverty, health related problems etc.
- we have inter and intra country wars for issues that are beyond reach of the common man.
- the youth of the country is devoid of jobs and is struck by recession.
- many innocent lives are taken away by a certain terrorist attack in some or the other part of the country.
World peace is now becoming day by day a major concern for all political leaders and governments due to its growing importance over other alarming factors such as climate change; it is, as it seems, useless to fight climatic changes and its consequences when war and racism prevails everywhere and hundreds of people are dying due to political instability, war and racism, which all form part of the factors acting against world peace. It is futile having a good temperate climate when terrorism, rioting and discrimination are striking in every corner of the globe and thousands of people are being killed. So, the great importance of world peace cannot be stressed enough.
So, it is my earnest request to not only observe peace day on 21st of September each year, but to take necessary steps which would promote Peace within an Individual, City, the Nation and the World.
Happy International Peace Day !!! :)

Corruption is a dishonest act, one has to think that most of the Indians are dishonest, which could be different only in degree between the individuals. As the reason for the dishonesty is greediness and the desire to get things done at any cost one can think that most of the country men are greedy and do not anymore think that the means should justify the ends. This is not a flattering statement and many readers would desire that it would not be so and such statement could have been avoided. But, the fact is that most of the Indians are involved in corrupt practices in one way or the other, either due to greed or due to so called compulsion. In any case, the willingness to sacrifice for the sake of not getting involved in corrupt dealings is conspicuous by its absence amongst the most.
The study on corruption has repeatedly branded India as one of the most corrupt countries in the world. Unfortunately, this view has not disturbed most of the Indians at all and they do not seem to care as to what others think of them; so long as the existing systems and practices would allow them to make money and get things done in one way or the other. The irony is that India is still considered to be a very religious country and it is still widely believed that the religion is the basis of Indian life, thoughts and actions. This is obviously true, considering the fact that there are hundreds of temples, churches and mosques spread all over the country and they are all densely visited day in and day out by the feverishly praying Indians.
Is not religious ethos contrary to corruption and dishonest practices ?The unfortunate situation in India is that those who call themselves most religious are often found to have indulged themselves in dishonest practices on many occasions. Several of the religious centres, of all religions, are suspected to be steeped in nepotism, as such incidents have been repeatedly published in the press. It does not shock Indians anymore to know that not only the politicians, ministers and IAS & IPS officers are corrupt but even the judges, professors, doctors and NGO organisations are.
Corruption is not only persistent amongst rich who are greedy in spite of possessing enough but also prevalent amongst poor.
Now, what can be the future of the Indian society in such conditions? It can be only frustration, chaos, unrest and even bloodshed in the not too distant future. This kind of corruption in the national polity and public and private life cannot go on for ever, without disturbing the overall peace in the society. It is sad that those who are in charge of the nation today do not appear to realise this and still are merrily going ahead with their dealings unconcerned about the harm that it would inevitably do to the larger national cause.
What is very sad and extremely disquieting about this country is that Ministers suspected to be involved in murder. Chief ministers of swindling crores of public money, senior police officers of molestation charges are all living in comforts and enjoying positions, thus effectively exposing the fact that the crusade against corruption has finally failed in India.
Even as the vicious cycle of corruption would continue with one swindling the other, there could be a number of persons who would be left out of this cycle due to inefficiency or commitment to the cause of truth and such persons would be driven down to despair. The incidents of history indicate that some of such persons who are out of the corruption loop could take up the war against corruption at one time or the other. But, they would find that in a corruption entrenched system, they would not be able to improve the conditions and therefore, a few of them may finally take to physical attack on corrupt and dishonest persons, leading to violence and bloodshed. Security, dogs and mere police rifles will not be able to beat down such determined crusaders.
The politicians and bureaucrats would call such crusaders as arsonists or terrorists. But, history would judge them differently. There are a number of determined isolated war groups already existing in the country and they are generally branded as terrorist groups and treated brutally by the state machinery, without investigating the reasons for their existence. One would shudder to think as what would happen to the peace of the society, if such groups would enlarge in size and number.
* Do you know Dr. Rajendra Prasad was?
He was the first president of India our country got its freedom in 1947.
Life history
Rajendra Prasad was born on the 3 rd of December collage, Calcutta, and passed Master of Arts MA and master of law ML with high marks. He started working as a lawyer in Calcutta 1911. He moved to Patna in 1916.
Rajendra Prasad met Mahatma Gandhi in April 1917. That meeting changed his life. He became a follower of Gandhi and joined the freedom movement.
Like Gandhi, Rajendra Prasad Babu was a simple and humble person. He was attracted by the ideals of Mahatma Gandhi. They worked together in the freedom movement. But he always remained a peasant in his heart. He gave us the slogan Grow More Food.
After India became independent in 1947, Rajendra Prasad became the chairman of the constitute Assemble. It was the constituent assemble which prepared the constitution of India.
In 1950, when India became a republic, Rajendra Prasad was elected the first president. He continued in that position for ten years.
Rajendra Prasad did on 28 February 1963. Although Rajendra Prasad Babu occupied the highest position in our country, he was not proud. He was very modest. Being a true leader he liked to serve his country and help his countrymen, than to lead them. We wanted to see that all Indians lived peacefully and comfortable. Even before Rajendra Prasad became the president of our country, people of different groups met in his house to discuss how all Indians could live together as friends.
This great was very kind to children. He did not want to hurt them or frighten them by speaking harshly to them. One day Rajendra Prasad Babu found many pages of his book torn. He immediately understood that was done by the children at home. He wanted them to admit their mistake, but did not want to accuse them of the act. He thought that accusing them would only make them feel guilty. He thought of a way in which this could be avoided. He called al the children and said, ‘’I shall give as a reward the same amount of rupee as the number of pages torn by each one of you’’.
All the children readily told him how many pages they had torn in anticipation of getting the same amount of rupee. Rajendra Babu gave them the money but told them that it was not good habit to tear off pages from books.
The children realized their mistake. They promised never to do such a thing again.
What a wonderful way to teach such an important lesson!
The rewards one gets in life are usually the results of one’s efforts. No man can hope to have a very easy life and also at the same time a very successful one. There may e only one or two exceptions in thousands of cases in this matter. It is astonishing what intelligent efforts can achieve when channelized n the right direction. Had success been easy everyone would have been successful. However, the path to success s not as difficult to climb as it might appear. Each time are overcome an obstacle, the work we re attempting becomes easier.
It is very necessary to work hard to achieve success. But psychologists say that if we love work, we will never find it hard or tiring. There is no substitute for hard work. At the same time, there should be a purpose and a noble goal at which to aim and advance. We must decide our aim in the life or what we want most out of our life and then constantly work for it.
The early attempts towards the goal of success are the hardest. The more our efforts get success, the easier it becomes to do so. In the end it becomes out habit. The success follows success. Nothing is impossible to a man who has a purpose and the perseverance to persist with it. Self confidence, courage and strong will power are necessary to get success.
It is not how much we do but how well we do that is important. but at the same time one should also keep this in mind that it is better to do something than to do nothing due to fear of failure. It is why courage is necessary to achieve success. In the ordinary business of life industry can do anything which genius can do? Genius is nothing but quality of making persistent efforts in spite of facing thousands failure.
Fortune favors the brave. There is no gain without taking risk. How a man who never ventures can win. In life one has to take bold decisions quickly. Time and tide wait for no body. The timid, weak and undecided are swept aside by the tide of time. Determination and concentration can enable a man to attain success in any field of life. So success is not a matter of luck, it depends on firm determination and full preparation.
Vat is anon-cumulative multi-stage system where tax is levied only on the net value i.e. tax on gross output minus tax on the cost of all materials used whereas in cumulative multi-stage system, the tax liability occurs at each stage in the course of production and distribution. This non-cumulative multi-stage system of tax under Value Added Tax(VAT) gives the possibility of knowing how much sales tax is paid on a product at each given point in the production or distribution processes. Prior to the introduction of VAT for calculating sales tax paid at each stage one has to depend entirely on how many stages the product itself, its components, and the equipments and services utilized have passed through. Thus VAT has simplified the process of taxation and also made it free of loopholes. For these reasons we should oppose the VAT.
But some people says we should not oppose the VAT, because it essentially means that tax is charged at the final stage, only when the value addition is done by the manufactures, the cost of raw material is not included while charging the tax. This low price allows the manufactures to compete at the international levels. VAT also helps in reduction of truck time and also controls the corruption. In case of sales tax, at each taxable point, the tax paid accumulates on the top of the tax levied-integration. Consequently, the cascading systems are not economically neutral in case of sales tax. The VAT can remove all these demerits of sales tax. So we should not oppose VAT.
The Vat is the effective system which can make the revenue collection of the state better leading to increased income for the government. Thus in my view it is better and more compact taxation structure system than the previous sales tax system. Once the VAT is implemented, the cascading effect of the existing indirect tax structure will be avoided, resulting in the benefits for both manufacturers and the consumers. we should not oppose the VAT. Thus is our view it is better and more compact taxation structure system than the previous sales tax system. So we should not oppose the VAT.
