Eating together
On the last Sunday of every month residents of the Amana apartments get together for lunch. The family ladies decide the menu and assign the dishes to be made among the different families. Everyone is happy to meet each other. It is a good way to spend time with one’s neighbors. Eating together also promotes a feeling of love togetherness.
Celebrations and eating together
Wedding, birth days, anniversaries, house –warming ceremonies and religious festivals are some occasions for celebration. People invite relatives and friends to celebrate the event. Special food is cooked on such occasions.
Weddings
There is great excitement in Krishna’s home. His uncle is getting married. All cousins and relatives have come attend the wedding. The village halwai has been employed to cook on the occasion. Religious festival
Today is Gur Purnima. Rani has invited her friend Savita to her house together they will go to the nearby Guru Mattam.
After the religious ceremony is over, Ravi Prasad is served. Rani and Savita then sit down to eat. Food is brought is buckets. They are served dal, vegetables, curd, salad and tandoori rotis.
Rani and Savita finish their meal. Then they pickup their plates wash it and keep it back.
Rani then takes Savita to the place where the food is being cooked. Many people are working there. Food is being coked in a common kitchen by volunteers. They do all the work. They cook food, serve it and then clean the place. This is known as Kar seva.
In gur mattam, food is providing free to all. People, irrespective of their eater and creed, eat together.
