THOMAS ALVA EDISON
Science is a search for knowledge regarding the nature of the universe. Sciedtists devote their whole life in searching for the answers as to how certain things happen. Scientists carry out experiments to test their theories and observations, and make conclusions which become laws of science.
Different scientists have carried our observations and experiments and discovered different things. For example Sir Issac Newton discovered the force of gravity, the Wright brothers invented the aeroplane and Thomas Alva Edison the electric bulb. Infact, Edison has a number of inventions to his credit.
My favourite scientist is Edison (1847-1931). He was a famous American inventor whose inventions have had a dramatic effect on modern life all over the world.
As a boy he sold newspapers at a railroad station and learnt how to use the telegraph machine for sending messages. It was during these days as a telegraphist that he invented many electrical gadgets. People began to pay for his inventions and his fame spread. In 1876 he moved to Mento Park in New Jersy, and the world came to know him as the ‘Wizard of Mento Park’. A year later he invented the phonograph or the record player.
In 1879 he invented the most useful of the things – the electric light bulb. The arklight used in this time was costly and could not be used on a large scale. He thought of a filament which could produce light when charged with electricity. He tried various materials for the filament but they soon burnt out. He finally obtained a special type of material for the purpose. The lamp he now made burnt for several days and nights. The invention was perfected and today there is light not only in the streets but also in every house. Edison truly converted the darkness of night into light.
Another great contribution that Edition made to the world of science is his work in the field of cinematography which helped in the development of cinema as an industry through out the world.
Edison has more than 1100 inventions to his credit and it is impossible to mention all of them. Edison is certainly a scientist to be revered, for his inventions have now not only become indispensable to mankind, but have served as a stepping stone for advanced research.

Sayal Bhoya was a twelve year old girl. She lived in a village. Sayal’s parents were farm laborers. They were very poor. So even at a tender age of twelve, Sayal had to work hard to earn her bread. She used to take other people’s cattle for grazing.
One day, Sayal and her friend Neeru were grazing goats. Suddenly Sayal heard Neeru’s screams. She rushed towards her. She was shocked to see that Neeru’s right leg was held by a huge python who was about to swallow her up. Without even a moments delay, Sayal tried to open the python’s mouth with her bare hands. She struggled hard. She was badly wounded but she did not give in. at last, she succeeded in rescuing her friend from the jaws of death.
For this marvelous feat of bravery, Sayal won th4e national award for gallantry. Each year brave boys and girls like Sayal are honored and rewarded by the president of indi9a on the republic day. Here is a story of yet another boy who won the national award for gallantry.
Chaman lal was twelve year old boy. He was a student of class VI. Once he was returning home from school with two friends. Suddenly a pack of wolves appeared near them and one of them attacked the boys. Chaman lal pushed his friends away and held on the beasts’ fore leg. The two fought for nearly one whole hour, till some boys arrived with lathi and killed the wolf. Rather thin looking chaman lal succeeded in saving himself and his friends by his undaunted courage.
Just independence, there were communal riots in many parts of our country. Much blood was shed. Many persons lost their lives. Property worth several crores of rupees was burnt. Bengal was the worst affected part of our country; under such circumstances a saintly person took a vow to put an end to this madness. Although he was lean and thin, he had tremendous courage. He visited the riot torn villages, towns and cities, risking his own life. People were amazed at his courage. At last, he succeeded in pacifying the people and established peace. What the police and the military could not do was done by the sheer courage of an unarmed old man. Do you know who that old man was? He was Gandhi. Lord mount batten, the then Viceroy of India, referred to him as the one-man army guarding the eastern region of the country.
Remember
Remember success comes to those who dare and act. Only the brave can enjoy life. The coward and the timid die many times before their death. So be brave. Face the challenge of life courageously.
The most beautiful and important thing in this life which every people in this world want is PEACE.But the real value of peace can be realised by those who suffer in war.The creation of this world is not for fighting against each other but to enjoy and that too by not heuting others. We must feel happy when we help others.Peace can be obtained throughout this world when we learn the habit of helping others. All humans are good when they are born , but the circumstances make them to chose the wrong option. So this life is to live and we must live happily by helping others and we should not fight in the name of religion or cast.

When will Indians actually think about this?
2. The nearest township of Baunsi is 6-7 kms away, where one can catch a train or bus. Moti baba, with the help of a stick, even today very happily walks the distance alone, to go to various places when people invite him.
3. He has a Thali for eating food and drinking water. At the end of his meal, he pours water into it, shakes it so that all left over particles come unstuck and then drinks that mixture. He says that it is a healthy practice not to leave any left overs in your plate. He has not fallen sick in last one century.
4. The youngest member of the Ashram is about 85 to 90 years younger to Moti baba. At times, the young monks ask him,"When are you going to die." His reply till Jan used to be,"I shall die after all of you are dead." But now he has started saying that he will die after five years.
5. I met him for the first time in Jan 09 when I went to stay with them along with a friend. Both of us generated a lot of interest in the area because of the colour of our skin. Santhal Pargana is dominated by very dark skinned people.
6. We were asked questions like are we from Kashmir or England. My reply of Shillong was taken as Ceylone(Sri Lanka) as the new name of that country has not yet got registered with them. I gave up after some futile efforts at clarification.
7. Moti baba does not talk much, if at all. However he did honour us, maybe because we were oddities, by speaking for a few sec. He spoke only three words,"DHYAN KARO DHYAN."
8. I met him again in May. He did not talk to me at all and just ignored me altogether. My gut feeling is that it is because I ignored his advice and did not do as much as I could or should have. People like him can make out.
9. I feel that advice of a man who has been at it for a century is important.
