Help Need
Look around.
You will see many people who need some kind of help. At school, tour teacher many have lots of books to carry. Your friend may need a pencil or rubber or many need help with homework. Is there anything you can do for them? Yes, can help them and show that you care. At home, your mother might need help. You can do small jobs to help her and show you car for her. When you help others, you are being caring. A caring person makes others happy.
The girl who cared
The year was 1900. There were not many hospitals in India at that time. There were a lot of diseases in the villages. Many people died due to lack of medical care. Young women died giving birth to children. Many children died of different diseases. A young American girl, Ida Scudder was visiting her father in a city, in South India.
Help
One night, a man came and knocked on their door. `` My wife is going to have a baby’, he said. ``I need a lady doctor. Can you help me? There was no lady doctor to help him. Ida scudder was very young and did not know what to do. So the man went away.
A little later, another man came and said the same thing, this happened tree times. Next morning, Ida heard that all three women had died. She was very upset. Ida cared about the women of this place. They were very poor and had no to help them or to make their lives better. She wanted to help them in some way.
Doctor
`How can I help them?’ she thought. `What do they need the most?’
What they needed the most was a lady doctor. But where was she to find one? There were very few lady doctors. She thought about it for a while. She went back to America trained to be a doctor. Then she returned to India the same city.
Nothing has changed. There was still no lady doctor. Women and children still died of diseases. Ida Scudder rented a small room in the city and opened a one-roomed hospital for women and children.
Today, that small room has grown into big hospital called the Christian medical collage and hospital, Vellore. It began with Ida Shudder’s desire to help people in need and actually doing something about it.
Caring
Caring for others is something every can do. We just have to look around us and see who needs our help and care. We also have to find out what exactly they need. Sometimes they may need only a kind word. They might need us to do something for them or share something with them. One caring act can lead to another. Dr Ida Scudder came back to Vellore to care for the people there. Many years later, other people also followed her example. When we do something for others we must do it happily and willingly. If everybody tried to at least one caring act a day, the world would became a wonderful place to live in.
