Holidays are the most awaited period in the life of everyone and especially children are most excited for the holidays. Every child keeps waiting for the exams to end and the holidays to begin. But once the holidays start, the children are confused about what to do in the holidays. Most of the times the holidays are spent by doing time pass. But if these holidays are planned perfectly then the children can enjoy these two months of holidays. So, every child should relax for the first 2-3 days of holidays and then start planning for the rest of the holidays. There are many things which the children have thought of doing but could not do because of their school, tuition, studies and exam. Holidays are the best time to fulfill their desire of doing some extracurricular activities.
Following activities can be planned and done in order to make holidays more interesting and enjoyable.
1) Meeting the relatives:
The children as well as their parents cannot spend time with their relatives for the whole year due to their studies and work load. But in holidays children can meet their relatives and spent some time with them. This will strengthen their relation with the relatives. They can stay for some days with their maternal and paternal relatives and learn some new things from them.
2) Picnic:
Picnic is the most powerful solution to reduce the whole year’s stress in a single day. Children can plan one day picnic with their friends. The place is not at all important in such picnics. The main motto to be achieved is to have full fun throughout the day with friends. For a change they can carry different food items or if they are of a little higher age, they can prepare the food at the picnic spot. While enjoying the picnic, children should capture some notorious moments in the camera. These pictures will prove a good source of entertainment in the future.
3) Watching movies:
Sometimes due to scorching heat of the summer, the children may not be allowed to go outside their homes. In such case they can gather at any of their friends house watch all their favorite movies. The day should be completely devoted to movie watching till they get bored.
4) Visiting your city:
The children can know their city better in the holidays. They can visit to a new place like museum, fort, historical monument etc every day. Children should try to get information about how to get at these places and then visit them. This will help them to increase their knowledge about their city.
5) Learn something new:
It is not required to spent money every time to learn something new. There are many things that can be learnt at home without spending a single penny. In short, children should don a sort of internship at home. Try to learn buying things from market, paying electric and telephone bills, some bank related works, simple and short repairs of electric equipments, keep accounts of daily expenditure, doing some kitchen works and many such things. Obviously, all these things should be classified according to age and learnt under the guidance of elderly persons.
6) Reading:
Reading is done of books but children should read whatever they find worth reading. This will help them to know many interesting facts. They should try to read newspaper, advertisements, information printed on bills, codes and numbers printed on the cover of an object etc. Many times such type of information is neglected but children should read them and if any doubt arises out of these reading they should clear them either by finding the answers by themselves or by asking their elders. This will give an impetus to their brain and will increase their curiosity.
7) Preparing scrapbook:
Scrapbook does not mean only to paste pictures of animals, places or any study related picture. Children can prepare their own scrapbook by collecting their childhood photos. They can prepare a scrapbook or album of their school memories. This album may include photos of their school, teachers, group of friends, sample of exam question papers, some memorable pages of notebooks etc. The scrapbook can also prepared of various other topics like school trip, family history, collection of favorite things etc and the book can also be decorated by using some innovative ideas. Such scrapbook will become a life time asset.
8) Making a film:
If the children possess a camera then they can prepare a film. This can be done along with their friends. 9) Story writing:
There is a story in every mind. The children can spent their time by writing a story hanging in their mind. The story can be imaginary, thriller, funny, a real incident or something about their dream. Try to write the story with proper beginning, meaningful middle part and a correct end. They also concentrate on technical aspects like sentence framing, grammar etc. Children can also right their own autobiography or they can take a short interview of a family member and write a story on it. It will develop the writing skill among them and will also increase their vocabulary.
10) Learning a new language:
Children can learn any language which they like. There is no need to join any class for language learning. Many times their friends circle has friends of different state. There are many interesting facts given in the geography books of children. These facts can be experienced practically in the holidays. 12) Exercise:
The holidays should not be wasted by simply eating and sleeping for long hours. Exercise is a must to make strong muscles and for personality development. During holidays the children can join a gym and do exercise under the guidance of a trainer. They should take proper diet and maintain a healthy body. Regular exercise for two months is sufficient to build a strong body and a perfect figure.
13) Spend some time with yourself:
It is important to spend some time for our self. The holidays should be utilized for doing meditation and contemplation. This can be done by sitting at calm and quiet place and communicating with own mind. By doing introspection children should try to find out what were the things they have planned to do and what they have done actually. They can even decide in this time that what to do in future. This self communication should be noted in a note book so that it will help them whenever they will be in confusion in future.
14) Summer camp:
Joining a summer camp is the most chosen option in the holidays. All the activities mentioned above are no doubt interesting but they require the help of parents. But nowadays the parents have their career and do not have time for their children even in their holidays. So the children simply waste their holidays in watching T.V, playing games on computer. To keep the children busy and involved in some activities the parents send them to summer camp. The summer camp includes various activities from different art types to adventurous sports. The adventurous camp has a great demand in the metro cities. There are many institutes which organize such adventurous camp. The activities in this camp includes rifle shooting, horse riding, Tarzan swing, monkey scroll, climbing, emergency management etc. Along with this meditation and yoga are also practiced to increase the morale of the children.
In India cricket is the most popular sport among the children and they are more interested in taking proper training of this game. The Mumbai Cricket Association has started organizing training camps in all the grounds in and around Mumbai. This camp is completely free and the children will be able to play cricket near their house.
There are also camps which train the children in dance, singing and acting. Many drama and television actors guide the children in such camps for developing their expression, voice and language skills.
