Hot weather and our skin
Summers bring humidity, hot air and sweat along with lots of other problems. The skin is worst effected in this weather as many infections may attack it during summers. The worst of all, bacteria develops faster in sweaty conditions, which make problem worse and many skin diseases take place.
Sun light is another factor that harms our skin in summers due to its harsh hot effects. In fact, summers bring rashes, acne, sunburn, tanning, premature aging of skin and even heat strokes. Let us look at different problems their effects and the way can protect us from the same.
Rashes- This is one of the most common problem in summers. Sweating and drying of sweat is a regular process in this season but in case excessive of sweating which stays on the upper lair of our skin for longer durations may cause serious troubles like common rashes. There are some more complicated problems, which may take place in this horrible season like rubra (PRP), eczema etc which rob our skin of moisture and make life miserable due to painful and itchy infections. The best way to keep rashes away is to keep the skin dry and drink lots of water. Taking a bath with cold water is good but not immediately after coming back from sunny atmosphere. Stay in cool places. Use talcum and prickly heat resistance powders. Never hesitate to consult a skin specialist if the problem persists.
Tanning- This is problem related to harsh sunlight that makes our skin darker. We can keep it away either by avoiding going in sun or wearing clothes, which give us as much protection by covering all parts of our body. Be careful as harsh sunlight contains ultraviolet rays (UV) which may even cause skin cancer in some cases.
Sunburn- Sunburn is probably one of the most complicated of issues we face in summers, which causes painful swelling, redness and blisters. The best remedy to get rid is use of ice or cold water regularly on the affected area. Calamine lotion is another popular lotion that helps in a big way. Use of sunscreen lotions is good if applied a few minutes before going out in sun. Please be aware that sunscreen lotions are available in different SPF (sun protection factor) containing varieties. We need a sunscreen that contains a SPF in between 15 to 50 according to Indian conditions depending upon intensity and areas we are living.
We must use gel based or cream based sunscreen lotions for oily or normal skins respectively. While on the subject, we should be aware that effects of sunscreens last for four hours maximum therefore, repeat application of the lotion after every four hors if you are out in sun for longer duration.
Dust and pollution are big enemies of our skin
We cannot remain indoors all the time and we need to go out for different purposes therefore the weather conditions are one of the biggest factors that we must keep in our mind and keep a strict vigil on our skin health to remain problem free in every weathers we have in our country. According to Indian weather conditions, summers are the longest and harshest of weathers on our skin. We need to be very careful to face problems, which may occur during this season with every possible precaution.
