Amalia Damonte, a childhood neighbor of the recently elected Pope revealed, that she had been forced to reject his boyhood offer of marriage, a move which eventually led him to devote his life to God.

The new pope has broken from past in many ways. He declined to use the golden cross and special car. Instead he traveled by bus.
Another example of humility was, when the new pope picked up his luggage and paid the bill himself. He coolly avoided the chauffeur driven " Vatican One" limousine and rode in a minibus along with other cardinals.
