Talk of high spirits — beer and hard liquor will cost 40-60% more in Mumbai and the rest of Maharashtra. The alcoholic beverage industry is reworking costs steeply following the excise duty increase in the latest state budget. In a first, the price of popular beers such as Kingfisher Premium will cross Rs 100 per bottle, while Scotch whisky brands like Johnnie Walker Black Label and Chivas Regal 12 Years-Old will hit a new high at over Rs 4,300 a quart, costlier by almost Rs 900.

Even if prices are hiked, people will still continue to party hard and drink hard.
Thats true, drunkers will drink... I wish it would have come down with a price hike...
I think its good, but what ever people don't stop drinking

Bad news for regular drinkers but won't effect much who drinks occassionaly...
Liquor is not essential item like food and so price hike as a result of taxation is okay. Like other items, there is price differential in liquor products also. Imported Scotch whiskey for super rich, IMFL (India made foreign liquor) for middle class and country liquor (Desi or Tharra) for the poor and downtrodden.

I think the price hike will not affect the people who consumes it daily.

The daily consumer will have to pay more daily. when the product is costly, definitely user will pay more. Hence, the hike will affect all those who consume liquor. If you consume more, price affect is also more.

Well... I find it this price hike to be silly and downright nonsense to be honest. I am controlling my anger at this decision while i type these words! This is just a way of minting money. People who assume that the government is trying to curb drinking, should first understand these things don't hamper the quantity of alcohol sold, even if it does drop, the government rakes in the money due to the price hike. People will keep drink. Alcohol is one of the prime contributors to Indian economy, and i cant imagine the government treating it so casually. First thing people make a mistake is that they term alcohol is a luxury item, which it is not. It is quite a basic item, almost as basic is normal food.

I have taken a step and raised a complaint to the government and urge all of the people who are concerned and happy drinkers to raise their voices as well.
Good for few & bad for few...
