Like all other things in our country, this has also taken a political color. No political party is leaving a chance to cash it and take credit. Now new protests in Karnataka for kambala

Kambla is a traditional sport of Mangalore and noone knows why it was banned because there is absolutely no violence or any kind of abuse. It is unique to our culture and it is just a bull race with the bull and its trainer running together in a muddy rice field soon after harvest..

That sounds similar to the camel race held at Pushkar mela every year. And if I am not mistaken that race are still held annually with great pomp and show. Then on what basis kambala has been banned?

It was banned along with Jallikattu because the courts did not take the trouble  to distinguish between the two. Kambla is a traditional sport every year here after the harvest and it is beautifully organised and enjoyable unlike Jallikattu where people fear for their lives . It is also a social event since fields marked out for the event and its owner's invite other Kambla field owners for the event and a feast is organized for all..So, the others too invite each other for their own Kambla event . We used to have a lot of fun during that period.

What is so special about the festival mentioned?? Does it involve any animals?? If not why should it be banned? The court is not banning just any festivals. It tries to intervene only if the festivals involves animal abuse

@ Usha, thanks for the sharing. Informative article.

@ why should this festival you mentioned be banned?? Does it violate some rules of the land or  involves some cruelty against animals??

No not at all, the courts banned all sports involving animals along with Jallikattu without making a study . But now there is news that Kambla will be reinstated for the next harvest season in December/ January

It is indeed a great country. Banning is also justified and lifting it also justified. WOW!!!

India is a great country of contradictions, what is new about that ? Haven't we seen enough contradictions and counter contradictions in the past ?
