Chankya aka, Kotilya and Vishnugupat was a wise and intelligent person. He was also great politicians, economist and administrator. His philosophy is still useful as earlier.

Very true, in fact Chanakya had already laid stress on equality and democracy during a period of time when power and caste factors overrode everything ..

His teachings and principles are valid and relevant even today, there is a whole lot of useful information in his books.

Some of his quotes and thoughts are absolutely bang on, even to this day especially the political ones that seem to be written keeping todays political atmosphere in mind ! quoting some of them.. absolute gems !!

Whoever imposes severe punishment becomes repulsive to the people; while he who awards mild punishment becomes contemptible. But whoever imposes punishment as deserved becomes respectable.

A person should not be too honest. Straight trees are cut first and honest people are screwed first.

Before you start some work, always ask yourself three questions: why I am doing it, What the results might be and Will I be successful. Only when you think deeply and find satisfactory answers to these questions, go ahead.

Smunder Gupt Morya married with Sikandar's daughter. Chankya declared that Son of lady should not be successor of Samunder Gupt.

Once you start working on something, don't be afraid of failure and don't abandon it. People who work sincerely are the Happiest.

Write some new one, what are you writing here is given in the article. Every member can read all these from there.

One can guage the intelligence of Chanakya who was able to do Lateral thinking or " Thinking out of the Box" at a time when there was not much freedom to do  so. He has done some extra ordinary things during his life time which probably even the leaders of today will not be able to comprehend.

Really interesting read !! Thanks Usha for sharing it.

Chanakya's intelligence is beyond imagination.  The fact that he has authored the ancient Indian political treatise ArthaShastra speaks volumes about his intelligence. He is  beyond times. That is why, his thoughts are relevant even today.

No doubt, even in modern age we compare people's wisdom, strategies and visionary mind to that of Chanakya. Chankya neeti and Kutneeti are still hold as examples and used as adjectives. King makers or bahubaalis of modern age need those visionary of Chanakya

Chanakyas birth and family details are shrouded in mystery since not much is known about him until he came to Pataliputra and was instrumental in the establishment of the Maurayan empire . There is also confusion as to whether Vshnugupta and Kautilya are two different people having contributed to Arthashastra. It is these many mysteries surrounding Chanakya that have made him even more revered .

Chanakya is considered as the pioneer of  the field of Political science and economics in India. Chanakya served as the chief  advisor to both emperors Chandra Gupta and his son Bindusara. Kasutilya is presumably the name of the Author;s Gotra.  The traditional identification of Vishnugupta with Kautilya was caused by a confusion of the text's editor and it's originator.

Thomas  Burrow, Indologist is of the opinion that Chanakya and Kautilya may have been two different people

But none of these confusions did mar the Chanakya's greatness, well known for his statecraft.

Like his name and childhood , his marriage ? And death too is a mystery. According to some writings, Chanakya was married to a Brahmin lady who was unhappy with his being poor which made him leave home and come to Pataliputra to look for better opportunities. Similarly, there are different versions about his death , that he died as a jina and according to others he was murdered by Bindusara whose mind was poisoned against Chanakya by some people who were jealous ..

Vishnugupt, Kautilya and Chankya are one person.

There is not definite since there is confusion about it and Kautilya seems to be a gothra probably to which he belonged rather than his name and Vishnugupta is mentioned only in one instance and that too not clearly referring to him !

May be Kautilya was his gotra.
