What extent we can delegate our work to others?

Interesting question. There has to be a fine line between delegating and washing your hands off the thing.

I'm guessing it depends a lot on your position in the company/place you work at. The higher up you are on the food chain, the more you can delegate.
It depends upon the amount of work you have and your authority to deliver it to others....If you are the manager of a firm then most of the team leaders love to take up work assigned by you and do it to the best of their abilities to show their capabilities etc, etc...
As per the empowerment that you have within that group or the organisation.

If you are confident that a work can be delegated down there is no limit for it.

Delegation of work is standard practice of managers but one thing that has to kep in mind in this regard is that a manager delegates duties or work not authority and bases on this concept a manager still remains responsible for the work of his sub-ordinate and here the question of selecting the right person for delegation acquires paramount importance!
Chinmoy has aptly stated that duty is delegated and responsibility is not shifted. He has also stated that right person need be given delegated power. There is another precaution. The manager must get feed back on delegated work.

duties should be delegated to others according to their capabilities to do work.
