    Salaries (in Rs)

    President : 1.5 lakh
    Vice-precident : 1.25 lakh
    Prime Minister : 1 lakh


    The salary of President, which was fixed at Rs 10,000 in the Constitution, was gradually raised to Rs 50,000 a month in 1998 with effect from January 1, 1996. And then hike of 300% from Jan 2009 makes it 1.5 lakh.

    Decision was taken by Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA),chaired by PM Manmohan Singh.

    I think so this must be net of perquisites they enjoy. Also expenditure on their security must be quite higher than their salaries per month.

    Jayene The salary is gross. Moreover, the salary of President and Vice President is free of income tax. The facilities like security, accommodation, phone bills, furniture, traveling etc. are extra. sepearte.
