I think Rose were used as symbols of beauty and love in ancient times. I don't know whether there is any other specific reason for this.

Santosh, that's is an interesting question. Hope we will get good answers for this from our friends here.
I hope so . I think Rose smell is sweet that attract more to people . that may be other reason.
Red rose symbolizes romance. So, this is an ideal way to express love.
Could I know what is actual age of this trend. Is it from historical time.
Red rose has always been symbol of romance. We have seen in Mugle Azam as well Salim with rose in his hands.
Yes you remind that movie well but it was in movie in actual this may not be happen.
Santosh- literature as well as movie reflect what is there in society. We have no other way to know. It is aptly said that literature mirrors society.
We can believe it. Its difficult to know originality. So let us continue.
I always think it is ironical that while red is a warning symbol, a red rose is a symbol of love...and a colour of shyness.
The "RED" color always symbolizes Love and Respect.

The "Red Rose" represents the passion and desire of love.. We always find that A red rose is given celebrate on Valentine's Day.
it is maybe because..

red is color of blood so just as blood is impportant for life, like that even his/her love is so important.
Because red roses are easily available in comparison to other roses i.e. white roses, black roses or blue roses.
:)

Yes...As roses can also be available in Boddunan member's Avatar ;)
Very True....

Sridevi's answer comes quite close!!! it is true that since red is the color of blood which is life-giving and Heart is the organ that is responsible for keeping life flowing through the body!
and since love is the matter of heart it is symbolized by a red rose and not of nay color! :)
Thats a very good explination.....

BLOOD, HEART and LOVE....

:)
I am remembering one poem of Scotland's favorite son Robert Burns.

Oh, my love is like a red, red rose,
that's newly sprung in June;
Oh, my love is like the melody,
that's sweetly played in tune.
That's lovely poem, Kumaresh!!

Yes Deepti, there's a story I read about this about a nightingale who gave his blood to a white rose for the girl he loved!!
@Kumaresh.... Thats very good poem :)

@Kalyani.... Blood to a white rose???? Thats very deep love :)
I think it's an English way of saying love but we- the Indians- can think of some other beautiful flowers.
