Friends,
Yesterday through Google blog there came a stunning news. Google said that the car used for its street view mapping service had been "mistakenly" collecting personal data that people sent over unsecured WiFi networks. The act was continuing for several years!!!
What is your opinion? Was it a mistake???

It is not a mistake. People are using unsecured connections. So unfortunately data is captured. Google also don't know about this. After knowing this Google apologized!!!! :) That's why google is number one.
I admire google as its founder's dream was to provide free internet to the world. And founder realised his by providing it free in and around the area of google's office.
@ Rakesh,
Why Google didn't apologise earlier? Was they not aware of this till now?
Whther it was aware or not is a matter of conjecture but by seeking an apology it has set a good example.
really it is good example done by Google. It again proved that the WiFi connections are not secure. Beware to have a password for your WiFi

According to the post written by you, i learnt that they are not aware of this. So they didn't apologized earlier.
Rakesh,I knew it through news. Then itself I felt a bad smell.Apology is good. But after practicing for years apology is not a good one I think.
As long as any proof is not established of such knowledge the benefit of doubt should go in favor of Google.
Abid begging apology after realising one's mistake is a courageous effort in itself. Think of google whose reputation could have been at risk while begging apology. Then too they did it.
I understands the matter.I am not involving in a tug of war on this.THanks to all friends.
....."Mistakenly" .....
Was Google unaware of it really....
Something wrong happening from so many years .. and not aware of that... FANTASTIC Google...!!
Only Google can answer that..
Toooo surprising....
We have to accept the plea of Google unless contrary information is received. Moreover, if the information gathered 'mistakenly' has not been put to some wrong use, Google's plea is acceptable.

That is why I put it here.
I agree that it is not one of the instances where Google can claim to be completely clean. One must not only be clean but also appear to be clean. But then such practices have become pretty common in the ruthless commercial world.
