The purpose of yoga is it makes the practitioner physically fit and mentally strong. Mindfulness is introspection in an honest and sincere way about your strengths and weaknesses and working on them.

Meditation is different from mindfulness. Meditation strengthens both your physical and mental health. Whereas Mindfulness is introspection that is looking into one's own self to recognize your strengths and weakness and sincerely working on your strengths to fortify further and working on weaknesses to strengthen them.
In simple words, Mindfulness involves conscious awareness. We are consciously paying our attention on what we are doing in the present moment. Breathing, eating, thinking, etc., happen in our life but we are not paying attention to them. They just happen. But in the state of mindfulness, we purposefully observe everything as it happens, and accept them as it is without doing any judgment. We live in the present moment.
When the actions, emotions, thoughts, etc., happen and our awareness is just watching them like a witness, then we are in mindfulness. But when all actions, emotions and thoughts vanish and only awareness exists, then we are in meditation.
Mindfulness is having inner sight of one's self. It should be done for recognizing our inner strengths and weaknesses. This is called " Atmavalokanam " in Sanskrit. It means having clear view of one's self. This helps in strengtheing our weaknesses and fortifying further our strengths. It should be done sincerely and followed

Here is thin layer between yoga and meditation. Yoga is physical exercise and keep our body and mind healthy. But in meditation we allowed all bad and good thoughts to come and go and try to forgot all these. In this way we clean our brain. for Yoga we have to follow some precaution like, empty stomach, not to eat and drink at least 15 minutes after yoga exercise and some more, but these are not necessary for meditation.

Meditation is also a part of Yoga. or Ashtanga Yoga or 8 limbs of Yoga. Precautions are common to all limbs of Yoga.
Some of the precautions to be taken besides what yo said are, the practitioner should wear loose dresses. Asanas should be done in well ventilated places, One should do yoga preferably in morning times,
Even I do agree with the other members rambabu sir, Meditation is the best practice. i have good experience with meditation. When we meditate then positive enters into our body and mind and it fill our body completely with positivist. So whatever we expect it happen if there is the possibility of expected thing to happen.
