The jails are intended on rule book for detaining under trial prisoners in safe custody and imprisoning the convict according to court sentence. The jails are supposed to work according to jail manual and cannot be allowed to be torture camps nor these can be substitute for trial courts.

The allegation of food poisoning of a detained under trial inmate in Tihar jail , if true, is hair raising. The killing of an Indian convict in Pakistan jail, a Pakistani in Indian jail and hanging of a under trial inmate in Tihar jail- all these speak volumes for the conditions in Indian and Pakistani jails.

    A sad state of affairs. And we complain of dreary and wretched conditions in Pakistani Jails, simply ignoring our own drawbacks. A classic example of 'Pot calling the Kettle black.'

    If a person is not safe in jail that how can we think a person of road is safe. for all these corruption is responsible. Here in my city security guards alleged for selling chpaties to convicts.

    Responsibility of government anywhere is not denied. But in jail, a prisoner being under direct control of jail authorities makes all the difference. As a free person, I may involve negligently or willfully injure or kill myself. So, I am primarily responsible unlike jail inmate.
