A nephew (sister's son) of Union minister for Railway has been charged with corruption. Opposition demands his resignation. Is this fair. Can anyone be accountable for conduct of his relatives, particularly those who are not dependent on him?

Absolutely not fair. Opposition needs a pretext to throw dust on the minister to show the people that they are the real caretakers of the people.
Pay no mind to those who talk behind your back, it simply means that you are two steps ahead !!!

First of all the nephew has used the minister's clout to fix a deal, so how did he get that kind of power if not for the encouragement from his uncle and his dept...how can a nobody fix top level promotions unless he has clout. Even if the minister had no knowledge of this, how can such a thing happen and who takes the responsibility for a lapse and misconduct that has happened in his department?because of his nephew? I am with the opposition on this issue...

The minister has offered to resign and a decision is likely to be taken today. However, his nephew (sister's son) is an independent personality. and an officer in Railways. Nobody can be assumed responsible for others or all his relatives. I hope union cabinet will look in all matters and make a correct decision.

I have not come across any such decision on his part. To be fair enough his claim of innocence is no more or less than the one of complicity by his critics. So he must clear the decks by stepping down until an independent probe clears him of it. Drumming himself for his own cause won't help because one who has been charged and arrested stands very close to him as a relative. He must not only be honest but must also appear to be so!
From the legal point of view as far as my knowledge of the Companies Act, 1956 is concerned, the schedule of relatives does cover this kind of relations. And the Act has elaborate provisions for dealing with relatives.International transactions between commercial entities maintaining 'arms length' relationship are routinely taken up for scrutiny by Income Tax authorities which forms the very basis of 'Transfer Pricing'.

Bansal and his family of wife and sons have made enough money in the five years that he has been in power. Apparently their fortunes have gone up from zero to 152 chores in that period, so how does he account for that along with his nephews rise in power and clout for which he is directly responsible. ..
