I have never done it as I never got an opportunity. My husband did it before 2 months for the first time. I also want to do so. But hearing his words I almost fainted, as I have 'fear of blood'. :( :(
Also, what's your blood group? We two are B positive. Am also positive in my thoughts

I searched and got this link. Go through it to know about the time gap of blood donation
http://www.mayoclinic.org/donate-blood-rst/faqs.html
So,Once in every month Blood can be donated.
i also know it now only ;)
As in the article it tells that after every 8 days, blood can be donated. Didn't got its technical terms.
That was for donating only the platelets and not the whole blood.
By the way, those who have donated blood, I just wanted to know something. In the article it was written that one should have a good meal and plenty of fluids before donating blood. What about after donating blood? once somebody told me that after donating blood, one should take some extra diet regularly for few days. Did you take special diet after donating blood?
What is platelets?
Blood constitute of WBC,RBC,platelets, serum. So platelet is a vital part of blood .Disease like Dengue is related to platelets . In Dengue the platelet counts get decreased and one has to donated platelets. There is a machine from which they separate platelets from blood of the donor and is given to the person suffering from dengue. :)
Rarest blood group is AB-ve then comes B-ve and O-ve and lastly A-ve. are the rare blood groups.
Only 1% of population has AB-ve blood group hence it is the most rarely found blood group.
I have a doubt.
Even if AB- is rarest, they can receive blood from A-, B- and O- . Isn't it? Am I right??
If so, even if they are rarest, they get the benefits of Universal receiver.
Both A- and B- can receive blood from O-. Isn't it? So, they also have some benefits.
But O- can receive blood from O- only.
If so, which group will get less benefits, while considering this factor also?
Sheetal can you tell me please :)
Yes you are right Sandhya. Blood group 0-ve has less benefit than AB -ve, A-ve and B-ve blood groups.
But AB-ve is rarest blood group which means very less people would have AB-ve blood group. But AB-ve has more benefits as compared to other -ve blood groups.
Lot of information on blood groups.. I am universal donor(O+) but never got chance to donate... :P :)
Just wanted to add that even though people with O blood group are called universal donor, The real Universal donor are people with O- blood groups for they can donate to person of any blood groups while the people with O+ blood groups can donate only to people with O+, AB+, A+ and B+ groups.

Can O- people donate blood to positive groups?
I learnt in school that......it does not harm for the first time when positive group people is given negative blood group and vice versa . But the real problem occurs when second time blood is donated.
i.e. When blood is donated, they produce corresponding antibodies that time will surely harm the second time blood is donated.
I think positive groups produce negative antibodies and negative groups produce positive antibodies which will react second time, when any of the blood group is donated...... i.e. When both type of antibodies are present in our body, it will fight against the antibodies next time. Sheetal, am I right? Am quoting it from my memory. Just add missing factors please

Jabeen nice explanation by you.

As far as I know, yeah problem arises if the negative blood group donates to positive blood group people and vice versa. And I think it is all the time including the first time. However, blood group O- is a special kind of blood group which is acceptable to all. Actually I also came to know it from an article that one of my friends had forwarded to me. How right it is can only be confirmed by some one of medical background.

Yes sandhya you are right somewhat.. O-ve can donate blood to all the blood groups but can receive blood only from O-ve donor and thats y people with O -ve blood group are called as universal donor. Since O blood group do not have antibodies and antigens against A or B . Hence they can donate blood to any blood groups. I hope your doubt is clear now. By the way ur memory is good...U still remember correct things.

Sheetal could you also please explain about what sandhya had said that there is no problem when negative blood group is donate to the positive blood group people for the first time and vice versa and that the problem arise when it is donated for the second time. Actually, I read somewhere that problems can arise from the first time itself.
