Easier for camel to go through eye of needle than a rich man to enter heaven

A camel going through eye of needle is unbelievable. But Christ said that it is easier than a rich man entering heaven. What does this mean?

    I am not sure!!! Does that mean that only poor people can go to heaven, rest go to he**. I am sorry to hear that, let me spend my money soon.

    Does it mean....a person who spends all his money lavishly in his entire life without helping a poor man can't enter heaven....almost impossible.
    To see heaven, one should leave the feeling of rich and should see the poor people. Heaven lies there.

    Very good link. It appears that being rich is not a disqualification. But love for wealth and reluctance to sacrifice this for poor is obstacle to enter the Kingdom of God.

    This phrase has lots of meaning it. I think it's the evil that comes along with huge wealth. A rich man have a tendency to behave as following

    > Immense love towards the wealth. Wealth becomes his God and he'll do anything to get it.

    > Dishonor and disrespect the poor ones.
    > God complex
    > Immense luxury and extreme interest to worldly pleasures.

    The phrase is not literal. It only means that it's too much difficult for a rich man to live like a normal man with his riches and thus it becomes difficult for him to enter heaven. It encourages to give extra wealth to the unfortunate.

    Well, there may be so many other meanings to this phrase which I may not ever even understand. Sayings of Christ is full of insights and meanings.

    You have understood the meaning correctly. In fact, Christ asked a rich man to donate all his wealth to charity and accompany him. The rich man was reluctant and so he just went away. Then Christ said that it is easier for a camel to go through eye of needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God. Thus, a rich man may also enter heaven if he is willing to give his money in charity.

    Personally, I do not believe in charity. This is a device to exploit weaker sections of society and spend some amount of ill gotten wealth to charity. Instead there should be fair and just social order. All should be given adequate training and skill and gainfully employed. It is better to enable people to earn honorably rather than humiliating them by charity.

    In this connection, I am tempted to refer to Punjab and Sikhs. There are no beggars, particularly Sikh, in Punjab. All honorable work and earn their living.

    I also don't give money to charity because i know well...lion's share is going to someone else' pockets.
    But if an old man asks me money or a help, I never feel it bad. But never do for beggars who are strong enough to earn a living.
    In Kerala, it's not a big task to earn 300-400 rupees daily...actually, our state is short of workers.
