My friends make fun of me till now, because still now, I believe in the principle "Slow and steady wins the race" and am not ready to change for it for any one or under any pressure :P :P :P

Being 'slow and steady' is okay in literature, arts, music where quality and not quantity matters more. But if you are in defence or police, being slow will not work.

In Police and defense also, hasty decisions won't work...but decisions taken with patience, wisdom and time will work better. Sure!

During operation, defence forces have to decide in split seconds. Speed is very important. Not patience but presence of mind works. Those who cannot decide quickly are best suited to office, audit jobs.

Even in literary or artistic works, time element is vital. Some of our great masterpieces were based on some brilliant bursts of ideas!

Even the winner in Olympics race starts in slow and steady mood....That's why he attains his peak speed at the appropriate time to reach the top.
Those who starts fast at first will get tired before he reaches his half way and can't reach his finishing point.
Also, haste is only a waste.....nothing else

It depends on the situation sometime to act fast can be harmful and sometimes slowness can be harmful. :)

Proverb actually means, we should be calm enough while taking our decisions. Also, we should move up step by step. Sudden acts may result in repent.

Suppose we want the 20th earthen pot which in the lowest position, what should we do? Take the 19 pots placed top on it before reaching your desired one.....Isn't it? ha ha
Not in all races - have you seen how Bolt runs in 100m!!!
True, if he slows down even for a second, I would be deprived of the pleasure of seeing him bolt like a lightning! :) :)

You know in this case an elephant is the ideal choice, he never walks fast unless a situation demands so, but when he does nothing can stop him. So do as romans do while in Rome.

Elephants were in army in ancient times. But being slow, they are now not employed in army. But still horses and dogs work in army.
Sanjeev...at least now, correct the spelling of the word 'believe' in the title :(

Yes, and also change on to in because you believe in something, not on something!! :)

You Know elephant is a royal animal and walks on his own pace. He would only walk for some one when he is in love with him. But once he walks fast nothing to stop him. He walks/runs real fast.

elephants are not slow Sir. They run faster than man. I think, it's not easy to hide elephants behind bush.....lot of space needed for keeping them. Also, food for an elephant :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:
It's nice proverb that introduces us to terms like objective, overconfidence, smartness, dedication etc.
if so then why always my maths paper not get completed within the time limit.why while writing theory papers my first answer ends in 1:30 mins and the last one in 15mins.am i slower than tortoise? :(

In my opinion only steady requires in maths exam,if you go slow in exams you will not make your paper and it's big loss and in maths lots of practice required after practice maths becomes easy and time saver.
simplifying trig expressions
Actually, the proverb does not mean that we should be slow....but everyone is given emphasis to that factor only, forgetting the second part.
We should never take decisions in a haste, so that we may repend it later. Speed depends on each one capability.
Can we 100% determine what is speed and what is slow? Never....we just fix it at some value according each one perspective, that's all.
"Lambi race ka khoda", a similar one in Hindi. He may start slowly, that everyone neglects him at first....(Same as the case of that old tortoise). Later, gradually he attains speed and reaches the finishing point surprising everyone.

I can't do even a single thing, if I hurry....In hurry burry, I will miss something. i.e. Mistakes committed may be more.....But, if I start slowly, and do things step by step, then I reach comfortably at the goal. Everyone has different potentials and can't be compared to another person. We should work according to our capability.
I don't agree with this because cunning always wins the race not slowness or fastness

Cunning can't always win the race, Ketan. It needs proper planning also, which needs time and of course, intelligence

Being cunning or honest is just way of performance. Cunning as well as honest may be slow, fast, steady of lazy. Here we are discussing slow, fast, steady. While discussing certain matter, we have to ignore the other variables. This is in Economics called- other things remaining the same.
Cunning always wont win race it is for some time only but not for every time.
Sanjeev has not corrected the spelling of it's title yet :silly:
Yes slow and steady can win the race but not now a days.
It depends on the distance of the race. In a short distance race a slower one would never win it. Speed is the name of the game.
