There is an unresolved question of the office of Chief of Defence staff. There are three service chiefs of Army, air Force and Navy. These work under Ministry of Defence. It is necessary for the three armed forces to wok in coordination during combat and even otherwise. It will help to have a chief of Defence staff for coordinating and supervising the operations of three services. The question generally arises as to which service should be dominating one. In Britain, Navy is considered most important. In India, traditionally, army is given more weightage.
It is felt that there should be a seperate office of defence staff drawn from all the three services and an officer considered most suitable from any of the three services can be appointed as chief of Defence. For more discussion see:
